‘“Behold the Hero, the State’s right hand, the Saviour of the ravaged Fatherland, who three times in a single year made two great kingdoms lower their flags. The rudder of the Fleet, God’s arm in the battle. Through him, freedom and peace reign again.”
Michiel de Ruyter, who was born and bred in Vlissingen, guards this square. The terracotta statue dates from 1852. It was made by Jacques Joseph François Verdonck. The children can play on the square and their parents can enjoy a snack and a drink. This is also where the shooting gallery is located.
